OUR MISSION
The Matagorda Bay Foundation is committed to the preservation, protection, and sustainable management of the estuaries and coastal watersheds of central Texas, with a primary focus on the vital ecosystems surrounding Matagorda, Lavaca, Espiritu Santo, and San Antonio Bays. Through collaboration, education, advocacy, and innovative conservation practices, we strive to ensure these ecosystems remain thriving and resilient for generations to come.
We envision a future where all Texans recognize and value the intricate connection between freshwater inflows and the health and productivity of our coastal environments. This includes fostering a deep understanding of how these relationships sustain vibrant habitats, support abundant wildlife and fisheries, and contribute to the social, cultural, and economic well-being of our state.
By promoting scientific research, community engagement, and sound environmental policies, we aim to maintain a diverse mosaic of habitats—from marshes and seagrass meadows to tidal flats and oyster reefs—that nurture biodiversity and enhance ecosystem services. Our ultimate goal is a coastline teeming with life, accessible for all to experience, appreciate, and cherish while balancing the needs of nature with the demands of a growing population.
